Investor EducationHere are a couple of terms that were used during the evening
Income Investments Income investments distribute investment returns in scheduled payments and return principal at the end of the term.
Income investments usually take the form of debt such as mortgages, bonds, and debentures. In some cases income is also derived from equity such as preferred shares.
Income example: Rogers Oil and Gas Inc.'s debenture pays investors 1% per month for 36 months. On the 36th month investors receive their last payment and their principal.
Growth Investments Growth investments accumulate value over a period of time and investors realize their returns at the end of the term when the investment is redeemed or sold.
Growth investments usually take the form of equity such as shares or partial ownership in private and public companies.
Growth example: Foundation Capital's Harbour View Landing real estate development project, based on previous results, is projected to return close to 20% per annum to investors at the end of a 3 to 5-year term. |
