1. Become an IFSE Student and register for the IFSE's EMP Exam.

People that have registered for the EMP Exam, will be able to take the exam in the afternoon of May 28th at the IFSE Institute. Please notify White Capital by May 14th if you are registered for the EMP Exam and intend to take the EMP Exam on the 28th.

Exempt Market Product Exam

The Exempt Market Products Exam as a proficiency requirement for Exempt Market Dealers – Dealing Representatives and Chief Compliance Officers in NI 31-103. The IFSE Institute is currently the only provider of this exam. This paper-based course will focus on topics such as the capital markets, the exempt market, know your client and know your product rules, ethical conduct, and features of common exempt securities.

The course has been developed to ensure that those individuals operating in this market have the knowledge necessary to offer advice to clients on these complex financial instruments.

Instructor

The course will be led by André Fok Kam, CA, MBA. André Fok Kam is a consultant to the financial services industry. Among other clients, he has advised the Task Force to Modernize Securities Legislation in Canada and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) as well as fund managers and dealers. He has developed several courses for the IFSE Institute, including the Exempt Market Products Course. He was previously an investment director at a major institutional investor where he acquired first-hand experience of investment products.

André holds a BSc (Economics) with First Class Honours from the London School of Economics and an MBA from McGill University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He has served on the Board of Directors of fund managers and dealers and is a member of the Independent Review Committee of the Standard Life Mutual Funds. He is the author of From Conflict to Trust: How Mutual Funds Manage Conflicts of Interest, published by Carswell in 2009.
